lesson image

The aim in these rhythmic or two-handed exercises is to give skill, speed, and grace to the two hands working together.

  • Spend 3-5 minutes a day on these exercises at a whiteboard.
  • If you have no large whiteboard, tape two pieces of paper to a desk or table, one piece for each hand.
  • Dots denote the starting places for a movement and the "X" the end position for a movement.

Instructors show children the images and note:

  • The geometrical form featured in A and B in the top image is called a circle.
  • The shape featured in C in the top image is an ellipse.
  • The shapes in the bottom image are drawn narrow, medium, and broad.

Children study the top image and complete the following drill work:

  1. Draw Exercise A, then B, then E.
  2. Draw Exercise A, then B, then F.
  3. Draw Exercise A, then B, then G.
  4. Draw Exercise B, then D, then E.
  5. Draw Exercise B, then D, then G.

Children study the bottom image and complete the following drill work:

  1. Draw Exercise A, then B, then E.
  2. Draw Exercise A, then B, then E.
  3. Draw Exercise B, then C, then D.
  4. Draw Exercise B, then C, then D.
